Tino is a second year Marketing Management student that shared his lockdown experience with us. When Jonathon, our Digital Marketing Lead, called Tino, we caught him coming out of the shops with a sandwich he ate in our company later on. Tino confessed finding the lockdown interesting, but obviously being tired of the restrictions while assuming they are part of the process. “The most difficult thing about lockdown has been not being able to visit my family”, he admitted. “They are very important to me. But for example, at Christmas, I was essentially alone. I could not spend Christmas with my family this year, I think that has been the hardest thing”, explained Tino while facing some glitches with the Internet… you know, that is part of the student life too 😄
Even though he has not done any extracurricular courses, he is making good use of this lockdown. “It has been easier to make time and to focus on my academic pursuits and to network with people digitally”. But networking digitally is something he never thought he would enjoy. “I am quite a social person, I quite like forming relations with people in real life but given this is the way to do it right now, it has been a good exercise on reaching out to people and just engaging, like what we are doing right now”, Tino said. Jonathon also asked him about the lectures online and what are his thoughts about them. “They have their pros and cons”, he said. “They are convenient, because some of the sessions are recorded and if you have to miss a session is not the end of the world, you can just catch up on what you have missed. But the major disadvantage is the sense of being in a shared space with people who are there for the same reasons as you are there, and confined. My sleeping space is now also my studying space, it is also where I exercise, my gym. I live in just one space which is not exactly the best for mental wellbeing. Lectures are another element I have to do in this space, so it would be good to go back to face-to-face learning, to interact with people and being in that environment”. When Jonathon suggested to play ‘Name three things’ not all the questions were easy to answer. Three things that you have learnt during lock down:
Three things that you will carry on doing when the lockdown is over:
Three things that makes you happy:
Our next session is conducted by Fran, our Media Lead, who will interview Chole, the very first president of our society, Outside The Box. Click here to read about her interview!
